+ READ ALL ABOUT IT! Monday, 11 June 2007 shitass condo Dear management of my condo, please sack the guards over here, for they have not performed their duties in a manner that may be deemed satisfactory. Alternatively, save the guards, fire the management!!!!!!!! My bicycle was stolen from below my block. They call it a bike bay. I think it's more of a bike fair, with free bikes as the main attraction. The stingy management know that the bike bays around the estate are overcrowded, and yet they refuse to install more bike stands, because each bike stand would cost like what? $10? Interestingly enough, the fact that my bike's bottle (yes, precisely, even that nut wants a brandless plastic bottle!) was stolen about 6 months' ago indicates that whoever stole my bike, if it's the same person that is, had been observing the bike for quite some time already. At least he's smart enough to notice that I haven't utilised the bike for months. In fact, if the person who stole it really is who I'm thinking he is, then he's more cunning than the average human being - he probably came all the way to Singapore (with work as the excuse) just so he could be stealing bikes instead of apples and rice back in his country. Smart guy certainly. I won't be praying for the return of my bike. Why waste a prayer on material things? I'd rather pray that the guards get sacked. At least that makes more sense, for then the other remaining guards can wake up their idea, and stop wearing sunglasses while slouching over their chair as they take their afternoon naps. Easy money hurrr. I wanna be a guard too! Now, why the @$%! am I dragging the guards into the picture? Simple. My bike's wheels had a chain around them, meaning it was impossible to ride it, unless you unlock or cut the chain! If the chain had been cut, it'd definitely take the nut some time to cut the chain. And the nehninehnipoopoo guards didn't see anything, though I wouldn't fault them if they're blind. After all, guards singing as they patrol the estate has become commonplace. Them being humans, I can't expect them to multi-task by singing and catching thieves right? Now supposedly the chain wasn't cut, then the nut must have carried the entire bike away. Which I highly doubt so since this is the least wise method - the thieve is easily spotted. It would only work if 1) the guards were having morning/afternoon/evening/night naps, or 2) the guards stole it! The management just tops off this shitass condo experience. First, the management took away our shuttle bus service for the sake of their pockets - and no smart ass made noise. What's next? Charging for the rental of the limited bike stands available in this condo? Paying for the usage of the toilets at the clubhouse? At the rate it's going, I wouldn't be surprised if they charge for toilet admission in the future. And if they do, I pretty much doubt they'd be charging 10 cents. It'll be something like 20 cents, considering how money-minded this management is. I think everyone should start investing in their company, they're making profits like nobody's business. The returns should be fantastic, unless of course you're a resident in this condo... 21:21 // darren Saturday, 9 June 2007 new blog in the pipeline Food, being a passion of mine, will always command a special place in my heart - so much so that I've already started working on a "dedicated" food blog about the local makan scene. More on that sometime in the future, but it'll be at least another week or so before we'll be able to see the blog go live! Meanwhile, to any potential makan kakis out there, feel free to pm me if you're interested in writing on the blog or in tagging along for the makan outings. The only pre-requisite is that we must have at least met once in-person before. Any updates on the progress of the blog will be posted here, so remember to check back often. 22:09 // darren Sunday, 3 June 2007 finally, a prawn mee to die for River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles 31 Tai Thong Crescent, Opp. Jackson Centre Opens daily, 6.30am - 4.30pm (Closed every first Monday of the month) To many people, being picky over food isn't an entirely favourable trait. For a select few, however, being fussy when it comes to food really is a good thing. In my opinion, food is God's greatest gift to mankind, though many would beg to differ. ![]() As an avid fan of seafood, and prawn mee for that matter, it was inevitable that I'd blog about this wonderful dish sooner, rather than later. Looking back, moving (houses) from the Western to the Eastern part of Singapore really was a blessing, for it allowed me to sample most of the prawn mees around our not so tiny Island. With that, I dare say that Hoe Nam is unrivalled when it comes to "consistently" churning out a tasty bowl of prawn mee that would, almost certainly, leave you craving for more. (This is another term for declaring that Hoe Nam whips up the best prawn mee in Singapore.) ![]() The main draw of this prawn mee really lies in its rich broth. At first sip, it is possible to tell that they have conscientiously channelled all their efforts into producing the ultimate bowl of prawn soup. In fact, the lads over at ieatishootipost claim that they simmer the prawns for more than 24 hours! The result is a strongly-flavoured broth which you should, at the very least, taste once in your lifetime. Very often, many stalls don't even get the main star of the dish right. The prawns tend to be overcooked, and worst still if they are unfresh (which from my experiences, aren't uncommon). Not only are the prawns at Hoe Nam spot on and tender, they are very fresh too - possibly due to their high turnover. The same could be said about the pork ribs. While the meat doesn't entirely slip off from the bone, it's neither too hard nor soft, and is a delight to chew on. The texture of the noodles are fine, with nothing much to boast or gripe about. Personally, I prefer Hoe Nam's rendition more than the much talked-about Beach Road's. The soup from Hoe Nam has a stronger prawn flavour as compared to Beach Road's, which seems more heavy on rock sugar. This is, arguably, the best prawn mee in town, though there are several others which come close. Chances are, I'll blog about these 'other' prawn mees when I chance upon them in the future. My final take on Hoe Nam: 9.2/10. 22:37 // darren Friday, 1 June 2007 nightmares aren't confined to bedtimes Presenting the world's most prolific nightmare with a twist. What's the twist you ask? It's a living nightmare that happens during the very heart of the day, and evening, for that matter. The Big Red Telco Company should stick at what she does best - the provision of telecom services, and not venture into the internet business, especially since she's inadequately equipped to do so. Massive lag spikes! Constant disconnections! A perfect recipe for a disastrous Internet experience. 5000+ latency on the World of Warcraft servers? Especially since it's a 10mbps line? Well done! Give her a beer, will ya? (A stale one that is.) I've just been pwned 3 times in-game by some rather sharp lag spikes. Pun intended. With that, I've wasted nearly 6 minutes running from the graveyard to my corpse just so I can spawn again. Plus, I get this every night (refer to image below). Unless of course, I don't surf the internet on a particular night. ![]() I could rant on and on, but as with all blogs, I don't really get to say what I want to do I? For then I'd have to make way in my schedule for several appointments in Court. I used to think she was reliable. Now I think otherwise. Shame on her! If you're reading this, do yourself a favour - save yourself the torrid experience that I had undergone thus far. Utilise the Green Star. 23:16 // darren Thursday, 31 May 2007 project unconventional The constraints of time had become ever more surreal of late. As the mid-sem tests began drifting in my direction, I somehow, rather miraculously, still found time to create what would very well be my 5th blog in as many years. But really, half the fun from creating a blog lies in its designing process. Hence, design from scratch I did, and quite rightly so in a manner that would be deemed 'unconventional'. Initially sampling colours such as pink and red, I finally found respite in a lovely mix of green, gray, black, and white - leading to the conjuring of something of which I now present to you before your very eyes. In the course of designing this blog, I adhered to my wish of not straying too far from the "modern, trendy" theme that I implemented in one of my recent designs (pictured below). Perhaps the only significant change in the design may be observed from the extinction of the "curved corners" concept. That aside, the idea behind it was more or less retained. ![]() It is also the first time that I've not used a single image that complements the overall design of the blog. Certainly a risky move, but it does seem to be turning out fine after all. Any comments and suggestions on the design would be much appreciated at this moment. =)) 00:18 // darren |
